S04 to travel to Bremer SV in DFB-Pokal first round

Schalke’s first competitive game of the 2022/23 season will be against Bremer SV. The fifth-tier side will host the Royal Blues in the first round of the DFB-Pokal after the draw took place on Sunday evening (29/05). The 32 fixtures were drawn by DFB vice president Peter Frymuth and Kevin Großkreutz.

The fixture will take place between the 29th July and 1st August. The specific date and time will be announced in the coming weeks.

“We’re looking forward to our first-round game against Bremer SV. Our aim is clear. We want to reach the second round and start the season well. In order to do that against a highly-motivated side, we need to be fully focused and have respect for what’s in front of us. We’ll prepare for the game as best we can,” said sporting director Jochen Schneider on the outcome of the draw.

Bremer SV qualified for the DFB-Pokal by winning the Bremen regional cup and are currently taking part in the play offs as they aim to be promoted to the fourth tier. Last year, they faced FC Bayern in the first round (12-0 loss).
