Schalke get their hands on the 2. Bundesliga trophy!

FC Schalke 04’s trophy cabinet has a new addition after Sunday’s 2-1 win at 1. FC Nürnberg (15/5). A week after sealing promotion to the Bundesliga, the Royal Blues secured the title ahead of fellow promoted side Werder Bremen.

Königsblau feiert mit der Meisterschale!

The S04 players were handed the trophy just minutes after full-time at the Max-Morlock-Stadion. Captain Danny Latza, who was suspended for the matchday 34 clash, lifted the trophy aloft alongside his teammates.

The trophy was handed over by Donata Hopfen, CEO of the DFL. She awarded all the S04 players a medal just before that.

1. FC Nürnberg were fantastic hosts and celebrated S04’s title win with their friends from Gelsenkirchen. They even played Schalke’s club anthem “Blau und Weiß, wie lieb ich Dich!” during the trophy lift for fans to sing along to.

Third second-division title, first trophy

The winner of the second division has only received a trophy since 2008/09. The design is similar to that of the Bundesliga one. The trophy, which weighs 8.5kg, has 1.2kg of mountain crystals in the centre of it. The names of all champions since 1981/82 are engraved on the trophy.

FC Schalke 04 are already on the trophy twice, having won the second division in both 1981/82 and 1990/91. S04 also went up in second place behind Karlsruher SC in 1984.
