Mike Büskens: I’m happy and proud to have been a part of this journey

The season ended perfectly for FC Schalke 04 on Sunday at 1. FC Nürnberg (15/5). The Royal Blues sealed the title with a 2-1 win and Simon Terodde got his 30th goal of the season. Both head coaches plus S04’s two goalscorers spoke to the media after the game.

Mike Büskens:

First of all, I’d like to praise my team once again. We’ve had a great week of training and the lads weren’t happy with just winning promotion, they wanted to end the season as champions. That says so much about the character they have and the passion they showed to achieve this dream. I would like to thank everyone here today, the lads on the pitch, the guys on the bench, the staff and, of course, our fans. Our support was amazing. I’ve enjoyed the last two and a half months so much.

We’ve seen in recent weeks what kind of an effect victories and success can have. We’ve had the support of so many people, but that won’t be enough in the Bundesliga – it’s going to be tough. We need to keep our feet on the ground and go into next season together. We will have some tricky periods and the Bundesliga certainly won’t be easy.

Rodrigo’s goal was fantastic. He saw that the goalkeeper was well off his line and put enough on it to beat him. It was simply sensational.

Simon simply loves football. He enjoys training every day and is willing to invest so much into it. He doesn’t just shoot wildly, he knows how to score his goals – it’s just incredible. He’s such a great person with a great character, so you can only be happy for him.

I’m happy and proud to have been a part of this journey.

Robert Klauß:

Congratulations to Mike and Schalke 04 on winning the game, the title and promotion. The team that ends the season at the top always deserves to. They finished the season incredibly well. I have the utmost respect for Schalke’s performances. I’m really happy with my team’s display today. We played really well, but shouldn’t have conceded their winning goal. Aside from that, it was a good performance and we were just lacking a goal up front. That sums up our season in a way.

Rodrigo Zalazar:

I couldn’t believe it when the ball hit the back of the net. I saw that the goalkeeper was a bit too far off his line so I just went for it. It was the best goal of my career so far. My father got in touch with me after the game and told me that he scored a goal like this when he was younger and that I was following in his footsteps. I’m so happy, not just because of my goal. This was a hard season, which we’ve ended successfully together with our fans. We’ll make sure we celebrate properly.

Simon Terodde:

I’m so happy that we were able to win the league after sealing promotion last week. The team, the fans and the whole club have deserved this. I’m also pleased to have scored on the final day to reach my target of 30 goals for the season. Thank you to my teammates – I would never have made it without them. I’ve got an actual trophy for it this year, my wife had to make me them in the past! They were nice, but an official trophy is even better. I’m looking forward to the journey home and the promotion party with the fans. The 2-1 win today in Nürnberg was the perfect ending for us all.
