Marius Bülter: It was important that we showed a reaction

Both Marius Bülter and Michael Langer spoke to the media after Sunday’s 3-0 win at Holstein Kiel (1/8), as well as the two head coaches.

Marius Bülter

Dimitrios Grammozis:

We’re obviously really happy that we got the three points today. We knew that it would be an intense game. We benefited from our quality from set pieces to score twice in the first half. That gave the team a boost and helped to give us some security. Kiel had a number of dangerous moments when they got into the box. We wanted to continue being strong defensively in the second half and create chances too. They had one or two opportunities to get back into the game, but then we made it 3-0 and from there it’s always hard for an opponent to come back. We’re really pleased about the win and the three goals. We’ll take the positives from this game.

Ole Werner:

Congratulations to Schalke on the win. It was a really bad start to the game for us and we defended set pieces really poorly. Aside from that, we did a lot of things right and didn’t allow them many chances from open play. We were often dangerous ourselves and had several bright moments in and around the box. However, we didn’t make enough of those moments.

Michael Langer:

We’re delighted with the victory today. It was a tough start to the season for us, but we were able to improve on a few things ahead of today’s game. I’m especially happy we managed to keep a clean sheet. The way that the boys threw themselves in front of the ball and worked hard out of possession was incredible. We’ve gained some super characters over the summer who live and breathe football. Now we have to make sure that we get better and better in every game and pick up the points that we need.

Marius Bülter:

I’m happy with the result, but not totally convinced by the performance. We could have done better in some areas, but at the end of the day it’s picking up three points that matters and we did that today. We worked hard on set pieces in training, so it’s a great feeling that they worked so well for us twice today. It gave us a big advantage. For me personally, it’s great to have scored my first goal in a Schalke shirt. When we got to 3-0, we knew that we wouldn’t let it slip. We have new players in a number of positions, so naturally we’re not the finished product quite yet. The important thing is always winning games and that’s what we’ve done. The fact that we’ve been able to bounce back after the HSV game is even better.
