Dimitrios Grammozis: I’m lost for words
Both Simon Terodde’s record-breaking goal and Werder’s controversial penalty in injury time were talking points after Schalke’s 1-1 draw in Bremen on Saturday night (20/11). schalke04.de has summarised the post-match reactions.

I’ve been in football for a while, but I’m lost for words. I’ve watched the incident for the penalty back several times. All I can see is a handball from a Bremen player, who goes down because he’s lost the ball. The guys in Köln in charge of VAR have lots of time to watch it back without any distractions. I cannot comprehend why Tobias Stieler was sent to watch it back on the monitor. I’ve never seen a penalty given from a situation like this. I’m a coach who never complains about a performance of a referee, that’s not my style. They try to do their best after all, but today was beyond the pale. The penalty was an absolute joke, I’ve never experienced something like that. Our fans supported us fantastically. They travel thousands of miles to cheer us on. There’s a lot of anger after today’s game. We need to convert that to positive energy so that we can perform well next week. I told the lads that they are allowed to be angry. We now need to play well in our next match. I’m pleased for Simon because the talk can stop now after he’s got his goal. We’ll regroup, look ahead and prepare for our next opponents.
Danijel Zenkovic:
We knew it was going to be a complicated and tight game without lots of goals because Schalke are a physically strong team, who are strong from set pieces and at the back. It was also clear that it would go right down to the final whistle.
Marius Bülter:
Our anger and frustration is justified when you watch the incident back. You can’t really describe it with words. I cannot understand how a penalty can be given there. We definitely didn’t play to our best, but it was an okay performance overall. We took the lead from nowhere. Bremen had more chances, though no real clear-cut opportunities. The win would have done us the world of good. Simon’s goal record is fantastic. He stayed calm despite the last few games, and that’s what makes him so impressive.
