Andreas Vindheim: I couldn’t have dreamt of a better debut

With a hand in three goals and scoring one himself, Andreas Vindheim got his Schalke career off to a successful start in the 5-0 away win over Aue on Saturday (22/01). “I couldn’t have dreamt of a better debut,” said the 26-year-old Norwegian, who joined the club two weeks ago.

Vindheim was involved in Simon Terodde’s opener as well as Marvin Pieringer’s goal to make it 5-0, while he claimed the direct assist for S04’s fourth goal of the game, courtesy of Danny Latza. The new signing was also on the scoresheet himself, finding the back of the net in the 38th minute to increase the lead to 2-0 when he picked up on a Terodde pass before finishing over Aue goalkeeper Martin Männel. “My final touch wasn’t good, because I actually wanted to pass it to Rodrigo Zalazar,” said Vindheim after the game. “So that’s why I had to shoot myself.”

Praise from Schröder and Grammozis

“It was a fantastic debut from him,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder, who was full of positive things to say about the Norwegian, both as a player and as a person. “It was important to us to sign a player who, above all, can deliver quick balls in from the right. He’s settled well, which is important, and personality-wise, he absolutely fits the team.

Head coach Dimitrios Grammozis was also pleased with Vindheim’s performance. “It’s great for the players to have rewarded their performance with goals. I’m pleased for him, because he’s trained well this week. You could see the importance of his crosses today. They gave us more space to play in going forward,” said Grammozis, who also emphasised that the whole team had put in a good performance.

We have all the possibilities to win promotion.

Vindheim also puts the team’s success before anything else, saying that the most important thing was to have taken the three points and that more success needs to follow in the coming weeks in order to achieve the big aim. “We have all the possibilities to win promotion,” said Vindheim. “That’s the ambition of the club, the team, and me personally.”
